The diver thought he had been attacked by a shark while fishing at a depth of 10 meters.

– All of a sudden I felt this enormous pressure and then it turned completely black, he says to Cape Cod Times.

– I saw a light, and he (the whale) started throwing his head from side to side and then all of a sudden I was out (in the water), he continues.

An expert that the newspaper spoke to says that the whales catch fish by moving forward with their mouths open. Whales have large mouths, but their necks are so narrow that they cannot swallow a human.

Humpback whales are not aggressive animals and there are no known examples of when they would have attacked humans.
