Corsair One a200: Tower of Ryzen 5000 and GeForce RTX 3000

Corsair's second generation of the tower PC with CPU from AMD, the One a200, is faster than ever with Ryzen 5000 and GeForce RTX 3000 in the test. And although the power dissipation increases in games, the same does not apply to the volume. The system is not free from points of criticism, but the high price is not one of them in 2021.

The Corsair One a200 at a glance

Even five years after the first variant with a CPU from Intel, Corsair remains true to the massive case of the Corsair One. However, this has been repeated and most recently with the Corsair One a100 (test) it has proven to be of very high quality and useful. The new Corsair One (Pro) a200 looks very similar to the old one, the changes take place inside and affect the CPU and GPU in particular – but not only.

With Ryzen 5000 and GeForce RTX 3000

Because Ryzen 3000 becomes Ryzen 5000 and the GeForce RTX 2000 is a GeForce RTX 3000. Specifically, the GeForce RTX 3080 is available with either Ryzen 9 5900X (a200) or Ryzen 9 5950X (Pro a200). The black model with Ryzen 9 5900X was available to the editors for the test, the Pro a200 is not painted in silver (aluminum).

The Corsair One i200 with Intel is also available

The Corsair One with CPUs from Intel was also reissued this year. In the absence of a new HEDT generation from Intel, however, there is no longer a new Pro version – the Pro i200 with Core i9-10940X has not been available for a long time. Corsair has also launched two different models of the Corsair One i200. One SKU relies on the new Rocket Lake S processor Core i9-11900K (test) with eight cores, the other on the slightly lower 8-core CPU Intel Core i7-11700K of the same generation. All other equipment items are the same.

More fans for the GPU, none for the mainboard

The new 12 l aluminum tower PC also has a large 140 mm fan in the lid, which is completely responsible for ventilating the system. If it is running, which is the case when idling a few minutes after starting up at 400 to 600 rpm, it draws in fresh air through the two side walls. The air thus sucked into the system passes on one side the radiator of the all-in-one water cooling of the CPU, on the other the radiator of the all-in-one water cooling of the GPU, before it escapes through the lid.

Five minus one fan and two pumps

The fan in the lid is not the one only one in the system. A second is in the power supply, a third and a fourth on the graphics card to keep VRMs and memory at the right temperature. This is new.

In the Corsair One a100, like its predecessors with Intel, there was only one fan next to the AiO on the PCB of the Nvidia GeForce. All in all, the a200 still offers one less fan than the a100 because the mini-ITX motherboard from ASRock uses the passively cooled B550 and no other fan, while the a100 still has an actively cooled X570 board from Asus (chipset and VRMs) with two fans was used. The fan of the power supply is also idle on the Windows desktop. The power supply has become stronger, it now offers 750 instead of 600 watts in SFX format.

The right chamber contains the graphics card and its cooling

Because the fans in the power supply unit and in the lid only start when its temperature is too high, which is not the case on the desktop, and the GPU fans only run when the graphics card is required, the a200 is idle under Windows thus only the quiet whispering of the pumps and the access to the HDD can be heard. The HDD rotating without access, however, could not be identified in the test system, even though it is the same series from Seagate as the a100 a year ago. The background noise in idle is already a figurehead of the Corsair One a200 without the HDD being put to sleep. With the smallest background noise in the room, the system is completely lost on the desk next to the monitor.

The HDD has been replaced for years

It is again to be criticized that in such an expensive high-end figurehead there is an HDD as a second drive year after year, which with 2 TB volume does not even have the essential advantage of an HDD plays out: Lots of storage space for a small price.

Upgradeability

Because the Corsair One a200 is based on standard components, it can also be upgraded. However, this is only partially covered by the guarantee. The information page about the upgrade reveals that users can only replace the RAM and HDD storage devices as part of the warranty and only use products approved by Corsair. Anyone who intends to do this should contact customer service in advance. The “upgrade kits” mentioned online are no longer up to date. Users shouldn't speculate with a GPU upgrade because that would require a board compatible with the full cover water cooler. The manufacturer gives the Corsair One a two-year guarantee.
