In the run-up to WWDC, it seemed for a long time that Apple would be announcing new MacBooks as well. But just before the event, a reliable source claimed that the announcement of new high-end MacBooks was not going to happen after all. And that source was right: Apple did not unveil any new MacBook Pros during WWDC 2021. But Apple may have had plans for that. Namely, the tag M1X MacBook Pro has been added in the YouTube tags.

‘M1X MacBook Pro is new high-end model’

To make the WWDC 2021 presentation easy to find on YouTube, Apple has added all kinds of tags. Think “wwdc 2021”, “imac”, “swift” and other terms that can be searched for. But Apple has also added two notable terms, namely “m1x macbook pro” and “m1x”. This can mean two things: Apple actually planned to announce the new MacBooks but forgot to remove the tag or Apple knows that this term is searched for a lot and therefore adds it. The tags were discovered by Twitter user @maxbalzer_.

The tags are not visible to everyone, but can only be viewed via a special YouTube extension.

However, it seems likely that the new high-end MacBook Pro will get an M1X chip. Reliable sources have been saying in recent months that the new MacBooks are coming this summer and that a new version of the Apple Silicon chip is coming later this year. An M2 chip in the fall for new models and an M1X chip for the powerful versions of the existing MacBooks therefore sounds like a logical scenario.

The new MacBook Pros are rumored to have a new look. design and more ports. The HDMI port will probably return and the SD card slot will also make a comeback. The Touch Bar, on the other hand, will probably disappear. Apple would also opt for a mini-LED display, although there are still major shortages around this technology. The chip shortage may also have been a reason for not announcing the MacBook Pros during WWDC. Also read our expectations of the new 2021 MacBook Pros.
