The Boring Company: first passengers transported into the loop below Las Vegas

Don't say that Elon Musk promises and doesn't keep. The number one of Tesla, SpaceX and The Boring Company is; managed to make the project announced in 2016 operational: to create an underground transport system to improve city traffic . Tuesday & igrave; last The Boring Company started to carry the first passengers in the loop which is 12 meters deep; under the Las Vegas Convention Center . The excavation works had finished in May of last year, while the start of the activities; arrives a few months later than planned: the aim was to launch them last January, in time for CES 2021.

The idea behind the project is; simple : decongest the traffic of the city & agrave; using a network that is articulated under the road surface. A one-way circuit along which Teslas move offering a service on demand. You get in the car and exit the other side of the tunnel – to put it differently & egrave; a sort of Tesla-based metro, an underground public transport service.

To tell the truth Musk does not like the comparison as a subway: he looks more like; to an underground highway says, passengers can travel directly to their destination without making intermediate stops, the speed increases not a little since it can & ograve; reach 240 km/h, and if needed, a greater number of intermediate stations could be created (the space occupied by a Tesla is much less than that of an underground train)

The path of the Convention Center Loop

The Convention Center Loop & egrave; 2.7 kilometers long , includes three stations (two outside, one underground) connected by sections of tunnels that measure slightly more; 3.6 meters. Inside the Loop travel 62 Tesla which allow to shorten the time of a walk from 25 to just 2 minutes. The loop under the Convention Center & egrave; the first perfectly operational, is not & egrave; still open to all but only to those taking part in an event held at the LVCC (Las Vegas Convention Center). Tuesday & igrave; last the passengers were there but they weren't so bad numerous to really test the ability & agrave; transport declared: 4,400 passengers per hour.

& Egrave; a promising start, even if it only partially implements what had been Musk's original idea : Tesla hypothesized autonomous driving and at the moment the cars must be driven manually by passengers, speed was expected; of over 240 km/h and for now you can not & ograve; exceeding the limit of 55 km/h, a system of lifts was imagined capable of transporting the cars from the street level to the access to the loop – the reality (see photo above) & egrave; of a Tesla park already; deployed at the entrances of the loop. However, there are already; plans to upgrade the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop from downtown to other areas of the city; (airport and stadium). And who knows & agrave; if in the future some limits do not actually disappear that do not yet allow us to consider The Boring Company's loops as a real transport system based on robotaxi (first of all the manual guide).
