For the ANGA COM congress fair for broadband and media, Vodafone is announcing a free upgrade of older cable tariffs for more than four million customers. Existing customers are to be gradually promoted to up to 50 Mbit/s in the downlink by 2023. But there are also upgrades in the faster tariffs of the portfolio before 2020.

All existing customers who are still in the portfolio's tariffs before 2020 are affected by the measure. A changeover has already taken place in the last few weeks for 500,000 customers. In the next phase, the network operator will focus in particular on older tariffs with low one- or two-digit download speeds. These customers are to be gradually converted to the lowest cable tariff currently available with up to 50 Mbit/s in the downlink and up to 5 Mbit/s in the uplink.

This is the largest tariff upgrade program for existing customers in the company's history. […] Today, many applications and digital services simply require fast internet.

Price and contract period remain the same

Overall, a changeover of over four million existing customers is planned, whereby the measure results in a doubling of the current download speed for around one million existing customers, said Vodafone at the broadband trade fair. The upgrade should take place automatically, explains Vodafone, and customers will be informed by the network operator when the changeover has been carried out. The contract conditions such as price or duration should not change compared to the current tariff, the measure is free of charge for all affected customers.

Existing customers from larger tariffs that are no longer offered in the current portfolio should gradually receive a higher download speed. Customers from the older tariffs with 150 and 200 Mbit/s should be switched to the current tariff with 250 Mbit/s in the downlink free of charge. And the tariff with 400 Mbit/s, which is also no longer available, is to become a connection with 500 Mbit/s.

Not all customers can convert the company. As Vodafone explains, existing cable customers who surf via the discount store brand eazy cannot be taken into account as things stand. Also some older tariffs in which TV products are interwoven or which are linked to multi-user contracts will not be upgraded.
