Globalfoundries is entering into a stronger collaboration with GlobalWafers to secure 300mm SOI wafer supplies. In the USA, the foundry will therefore invest in a new production line for the 300 mm blanks and expand the existing capacity to 200 mm solutions.
The total investment volume includes around $ 800 million. The 300 mm wafers are then to be brought from the GlobalWafers factories in O'Fallon, Missouri, to Globalfoundries Fab 8 in Malta, New York, where they will be exposed and produce corresponding products. The production line should be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
