With the VG32VQ R , Asus is bringing the successor to the VG32VQ onto the market. The 32-inch monitor delivers the WQHD resolution with up to 165 Hz, while the predecessor still has 144 Hz. With ELMB Sync, Motion Blur Reduction and Adaptive-Sync are possible at the same time.

VG32VQ gets an “R” update

The higher refresh rate is also the main change compared to the Asus TUF Gaming VG32VQ, which was introduced two years ago. Unless the data sheets lie, there is also a little more leeway for height adjustment (140 mm instead of 100 mm).

What remains is a VA panel with a radius of 1.8 meters (1800R) with a 3: 000: 1 static contrast ratio and up to 400 cd/m², which Asus has now underlined with a DisplayHDR 400 certificate. The mentioned ELMB Sync means that the backlight strobing to reduce the motion blur can be used simultaneously with Adaptive-Sync against tearing. FreeSync Premium with Radeon graphics cards is officially supported. Thanks to ELMB, the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) should be 1 ms, the response time when changing gray (GtG) is not specified, but should be higher.

The color depth is specified with 8 bits and the color space with 130 percent sRGB. In addition to various HDR modes, there are typical gaming features such as “Shadow Boost” to brighten up dark game scenes or the functions listed under “Game Plus” such as a crosshair or an FPS counter. The blue light filter can be individually adjusted in different stages.

Price, specifications and availability

The new VG32VQR with slightly improved equipment currently costs 536 euros a good bit more than the VG32VQ, which is currently available from 420 euros. Asus has the VG32VQ1BR in the same series for less than 400 euros. This delivers the same resolution with stronger curvature (1500R), also 165 Hz, but lower luminosity (250 cd/m²) and only ELMB instead of ELMB Sync.
