He was acquitted in February last year of charges of organizing protests in 2013 against the rebuilding of Gezi Park in Istanbul, but that verdict was appealed. He is now also accused of having participated in the 2016 coup attempt. a way for Turkey to silence him and demanded in 2019 that he be released.
