Also for the first quarter of this year, an analysis by Counterpoint Research confirms that Apple has a dominant position in the smartphone market with the iPhone 12 series. Apple's current smartphone series can account for around a third of total sales.
6 × Apple, 3 × Samsung in Top 10
The iPhone 12 Pro Max is at the top with a 12 percent share of sales. Overall, the most expensive iPhone also generates the highest sales. The second model is followed by the cheaper iPhone 12, which is also two percent ahead of the iPhone 12 Pro at 11 percent. With a sales share of only 2 percent, the iPhone 12 mini is behind the iPhone 11 (3 percent) and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the first smartphone that can break the dominance of the iPhone with a sales share of 3 percent in the overall market. The Galaxy S21 5G is in seventh place with 2 percent, ahead of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, which also has 2 percent. It is the only smartphone that appears in the top 10 and does not come from Apple or Samsung.
Apple also leads in terms of quantities
In terms of market share based on the number of units sold, the iPhone 12s are also in the lead leading, but in Summer they account for a small share of 12 percent of all smartphones sold. Here, the cheaper iPhone 12 is at the top with 5 percent, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max with four and the iPhone 12 Pro with 3 percent. After the iPhone 11 in fifth place, the Redmi 9A, Redmi 9 and Samsung Galaxy A12 are followed by cheaper models that sell more frequently in the mass market. In the top 10 of the best-selling smartphones, Redmi and Samsung A-series models appear three times. The Redmi 9A sold particularly well in China and India, while the Redmi 9 sold well in Southeast Asia. While Xiaomi continues to lead the range below 150 US dollars, Samsung's was able to sell most smartphones in the price range from 150 to 250 US dollars.
