Rumor: Apple Watch Series 7 should get an angular design

First renderings should show the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7, which should take up the angular design of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro (test) as well as the new iPads and iMacs. Accordingly, the Apple Watch will lose its display, which is strongly rounded towards the edges, in the fall and will for the first time use a somewhat flatter display.

Apple Watch follows iPhone and iPad

As the YouTuber Jon Prosser explains on his YouTube channel Front Page Tech, he had the renderings of the successor to the Apple Watch Series 6 (test) made based on real product images and CAD drawings of the Apple Watch Series 7 to protect his source. The renderings created with it come from Ian Zelbo alias @RendersbyIan.

Technical information about the smartwatch shown is not available, Prosser also admits in the video that his source cannot prove that it is actually the Apple Watch Series 7. He speculates that it could already be the Apple Watch Series 8. From the point of view of the ComputerBase editorial team, the renderings are therefore to be classified as rumors with potential misinterpretation.

Judging by the pictures, the next generation of Apple's smartwatch should be based on the design introduced for the first time with the iPad Pro from 2018, which is currently also used by the iPhone 12 and the recently introduced iPad Pro 12.9 “(test). Then as now, the “angular” design can be rated as a kind of small homage to the design language of the iPhone 4 (test) from 2010.

Apple should think about larger models

As Prosser explains in his video, Apple should also work behind the scenes on somewhat larger prototypes with thinner display bezels. This thesis was recently supported by the Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is considered to be accurate with his statements. A new sensor for determining blood sugar is also haunted by the rumor mill.

The presentation of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 is expected at a keynote this fall.
