This is how Hanna Öberg will avoid the slumps

How to get rid of the weaknesses

After the energy dip in the WC and a weak end to the season, the biathlon star Hanna Öberg and the national team management have learned lessons for the upcoming Olympic season. – To be on the right side of the energy balance and be careful with the recovery, she says.

TT Hanna Öberg's form was weaker at the end of the season in Östersund. Lessons have been learned so that she will avoid dips during the next season. Picture: Anders Wiklund/TT During the WC in Pokljuka, Öberg did a couple of worse races (tenth in sprint and 13th in hunt start) when she did not think her body responded. She and the national team management understood that it was about her being behind in energy and the recipe was to push in pizza and cakes and stay still. The answer was a second place in the distance race. When the World Cup ended in Östersund, the fine form she had before had the season disappeared and she got the places 52, 54 and 24 and slipped down to fourth place overall in the World Cup. This is how Öberg now says about the lessons learned after the dips. – It is partly about making sure to be on the right side with energy balance long time and do not go over to the wrong side of the border. And to be very careful with recovery in general. The riders have a very tough competition program, so it is important to ensure that you get enough recovery, she states. – But it is also about being able to perform on the shooting range even on days I do not has the best form of riding, not to give away anything unnecessarily. If I shoot well even if I do not have my best ride, I could still make decent results. She says that she has now started working tighter with Linda Bakkman who is a dietician at the Swedish Olympic Committee on the diet issue. – And I feel that I am on a place in life where everything has been put in order this summer. Now I have all the prerequisites to do this well. And me and Johannes (Lukas, the national team captain) have made a very good training plan and I also have very good sparring of the others in the national team, says Öberg. Lukas also says that they have learned lessons from last season and now found a good plan for Hanna Öberg .It may also be relevant for the star to give up some races the coming winter. – Of course, there is always the opportunity to stand over some competition or, for example, a relay. You do not have to ride everything if you feel that you are a bit on the border, says Lukas. Öberg ran all races last season, including seven at the World Cup. – It was a bit of a plan last season, to try to run all races. But you can definitely imagine that she will be over some competition next season, says Lukas. Facts
