The first experiences with the M1 iMac 2021 are online

Hands-on videos and experiences

For the first time in nearly a decade, the iMac has been redesigned & ndash; and what kind of one! The appearance is completely different, it is thinner than ever and the colors complete it. Apple has already sent selected media an iMac, which in itself is nice to see which color the various reviewers have received. Is it the high-end colors yellow, orange and purple? Or is there also someone with a standard silver? Of course we are also very curious about the unpacking experience: what has Apple come up with to make you feel happy when unpacking? And is the performance just as good with the M1 MacBooks from the end of last year? You will not find very in-depth experiences, because most reviewers have only recently been able to test the M1 iMac. Here you will find at least some experiences and opinions together!

First iMac unboxing

Before the first videos from selected media appeared online, there was Asia in Asia; already someone who managed to get their hands on the yellow iMac. In the video below you get live commentary on the Asian video, which may make it a bit clearer than just looking at the images. Special is the packaging, in which a & lsquo; hello & rsquo; you smile when opening. The packaging is also very similar to that of the Pro Display XDR. The colors are nice and bright and are even more beautiful than in the online photos, while the white screen edge is less disturbing than previously thought.

First impression of MKBHD

Marques Brownlee shows in his video the first experiences with the new product. As usual, he is quite thorough and also tells some interesting tidbits. But first the iMac is professionally unpacked.

iMac hands-on at TechCrunch

TechCrunch released reviewer Brian Heater on the iMac. He says it's a nice leap forward for the desktop on a few fundamental points. This is breathing new life into one of the most popular systems and it was about time. It does miss ports, including an SD reader. He would also like to see a 27-inch version in the long run, or perhaps even an iMac Pro. The new iMac is less geared towards creative professionals than before, but it still handles audio, video and photo editing quite well.

The fun colors and the improved videocall qualities are a nice plus, but it's mainly about Apple Silicon.

The Verge has already tried the M1 iMac

The Verge believes that this new iMac, despite its decent performance, is primarily aimed at the household market. You pay more to have to do less: you do not have to purchase a screen, speakers, webcams and the like, because that is all included as standard. Technicians who want to open their machine to upgrade themselves, it is less suitable for that. But they are therefore not the target audience for this Mac, even though the specs are suitable.

Reviewer Monica Chin thinks Apple could have done a little more, such as a 30-inch model with a 6K screen, a 12-core workhorse. But it will come in the future. It's not a spectacular design, but it's fun for your desk, and it includes improvements over the previous 21.5-inch.

This is the iMac most people will be happy with.

CNET goes hands-on with the iMac 2021

Like many reviewers, the CNET guy would like to see a larger 27-inch variant. And then also like new colors for the MacBooks and even the Mac mini. The reviewer gives the iMac a score of 8.3. It's a long-awaited redesign in color. It is lighter and thinner, but with a larger screen. And it has a great webcam. But some features are reserved for the more expensive configurations, such as Touch ID in the keyboard. The amount of RAM and storage is also limited. Plus, you can't mix accessories in terms of color.

Engadget about the iMac M1: the ideal portable family computer

Engadget also sees the iMac M1 primarily as a computer for the whole family, even though it contains more power than you might need right now. The new iMac is “the portable desktop I never knew I wanted,” the reviewer said. It weighs less than 10 pounds, which is light enough to tow indoors. Advantages are the fast performance, the beautiful 24-inch Retina screen, the colorful housing and the thin design. Downsides are the fact that it only contains USB-C ports and you can't adjust the screen vertically. Mouse and keyboard, like their predecessors, are still uncomfortable to use.
