The Stellantis Group and Foxconn have formalized their collaboration that will result in & agrave; in an equal joint venture that will take care of; to develop solutions for connected cars. In particular, we will work on digital cockpits and on the creation of new advanced services. No electric cars, therefore, at least in the immediate future. In fact, previously there was speculation of a possible alliance to produce electric cars in China since last year FCA was moving in this direction with Foxconn.
THE JOINT VENTURE MOBILE DRIVE IS BORN
The joint venture will be called & agrave; & quot; Mobile Drive & quot; and will be able to rely on Stellantis' expertise in vehicle design and on Foxconn's experience in developing software and hardware for smartphones and electronics for the end consumer. Given the importance of software development today, this joint venture could represent an added value for Stellantis to make progress more; quickly creating new digital solutions to be integrated into its cars and to offer to customers. In this regard, Young Liu , president of Foxconn, commented:
The vehicles of the future will be more and more; guided and characterized by the software. The new joint venture will have; based in the Netherlands and will operate as a automotive supplier . Everything developed will be; owned of Stellantis and Foxconn. However, the hardware and software solutions will also be offered to any other interested car manufacturers. Carlos Tavares , managing director of Stellantis, commented on this new project:
