We've been hearing a lot about the new MacBooks lately, but in the field of desktops, Apple has quite a few new models in store. The iMac 2021 will be released this week, but more new desktop Macs will be released at a later date. Next year there will be a newly designed powerful high-end Mac Pro with Apple Silicon. Apple is also going to release a new powerful Mac mini as a successor to the current Intel version. The big version of the iMac is also on the way, although we don't know exactly when.
& lsquo; New Mac Pro with Apple Silicon has up to 40-core chip & rsquo;
Bloomberg talks about a & ldquo; completely new & rdquo; Mac Pro. Mark Gurman shares several interesting details. The new Mac Pro will get a 20- or 40-core Apple Silicon chip. It consists of 16 and 32 high-performance cores, respectively, with four or eight high-efficiency cores. Apple always makes its chips with two types of cores, which come into action depending on the type of use. In addition, the chips contain 64- or 128-core for graphics.
This Mac Pro is really meant for professionals who have to do the most demanding tasks for their work. The Mac Pro is widely used by people from the film, music, photo and video industry. In terms of design, it is a smaller version of the current Mac Pro, which has a distinctive design due to the cheese grater design. The new Mac Pro is not expected until next year.
& lsquo; New higher-end Mac mini with Apple Silicon & rsquo;
Apple already released the Mac mini with M1 chip at the end of last year, but it was the entry-level version. Apple has therefore kept the Intel version in the range, but it will be replaced at a later time by a new more powerful M1 Mac mini. This model is codenamed J374 and will get the same chip as in the upcoming high-end MacBook Pro scheduled for this summer. Also, this model will get four ports (instead of two).
It is not entirely clear when Apple has planned the new model of the Mac mini. Bloomberg is still holding back and says Apple may decide to postpone or cancel the release. Ultimately, however, Apple will replace the Intel version with its own variant.
& lsquo; Larger new iMac development paused & rsquo;
Finally, Bloomberg says Apple has a new larger iMac in the works. but that development of that model was paused months ago. Apple wanted to focus on the 24-inch iMac coming out this week and only then move on to the new larger version. Other details about the larger iMac are not yet available, but this may be a new high-end model with a faster chip. It should be the successor to the 27-inch iMac.
