Large screen photography: popular Halide camera app now also for iPad

Popular Halide Mark II now also for the iPad

Today a version of the popular camera app Halide Mark II has been released for the iPad. In October last year, the app got a major makeover and now Halide can also be used on the iPad. The professional camera app was co-developed by the Dutchman Sebastiaan de With. Earlier, he and his team created Specter Camera, an app that allows you to take long exposure photos using AI. Halide's new iPad app is packed with smart technology that users will recognize from the iPhone version. At the same time, the app is specifically designed for a good user experience on the iPad.

Well-known Halide functions can now be used on iPad

Just like in the iPhone app, you can also determine the shutter speed on the iPad. You can also take RAW + photos with Halide for your iPad. These are images that combine the technologies of RAW (extended XDR 14-bit color recording) and HEIC (with Smart HDR and Deep Fusion). Furthermore, the app lets you focus manually and you can use the Depth mode. This allows you to review your photo in AR, for example. The Instant RAW option is also available on the iPad. Where RAW photos are normally not to be admired in their full glory during capture, this ensures that you can immediately see the end result. The iPad version of Halide also uses Smart RAW, so that RAW photos show more details and less noise.

Special design for iPad

Taking pictures with an iPhone is quite different from taking pictures with an iPad. For that reason, the makers have made changes to the interface of the app, so that the app can still be used with one hand. For example, you will find a fold-out menu around the shutter button that can display more or less functions. This keeps the viewfinder free. The most important functions are also located on the edge of the screen, so that you always have everything at hand. For those who want to have specific functions of the app at their fingertips, the interface is customizable. Left-handers can flip the entire app to the left.

>Another obstacle the developers encountered is the size of the screen. A large screen makes it difficult to view the total picture. In addition, the camera sensors and the screen have the same aspect ratio, so that you normally lose part of your image to the software of the app. That's why they added Pro View mode to Halide. At the bottom left corner you will find a switch that makes the viewfinder smaller. The image zooms out, as it were, giving you a better overview for the right composition. It also creates extra room for manual adjustments, a larger color histogram and other functions.

Free for existing users

The iPad version of Halide can be downloaded and installed at no extra cost for existing users of the app. You do not have to pay again if you have already bought the app.

If you are not a user yet, you can purchase the app once for & euro; 43.99. That is more expensive than before, because at first it cost you & euro; 32.99 for the full version of the camera app. You can also opt for an annual or monthly subscription, for & euro; 13.49 or & euro; 1.99 respectively. That is also a bit more expensive than before. The early risers using the app from the start can receive free updates until October 2021.
