European car market 2021: the decline in registrations continues in April

The car market continues to suffer not only in Italy but also at European. ACEA has published the data of registrations at the level of the Old Continent for the month of April 2021 . The numbers speak very clearly even if you have to pay a little of attention. In fact, the comparison is; was made with the same period of 2020, a parallel that makes no sense given that in April 2020 Europe was essentially in lockdown to curb the spread of the dangerous virus.

A COMPARISON WITH 2019

Not for nothing, the month of April 2020 was considered as the worst ever in terms of registrations (292,182). That's why & eacute; the comparison with this month is of little value given that the indicators all obviously appear to be in strong growth. Much more a parallel with the month of April 2019 makes sense.

Specifically for April 2021, 1,039,810 cars were registered (European Union + EFTA + UK). For comparison, in the same period two years ago 1,345,181 vehicles were registered. Therefore, about 300,000 cars are missing, equal to a decrease of about 22.7%. Wanting to make a further comparison, the numbers for April are much lower than those of March when 1,387,924 cars were registered (European Union + EFTA + UK).

ACEA data for the main European markets obviously show important increases always because & eacute; & egrave; A comparison of little use was made with 2020. Also in this case the parallel with 2019 is; more correct and already; we know that the Italian market, for example, showed a heavy drop of 17.1%. Numbers aside, the objective data is; the suffering of the automotive sector which continues despite many countries having provided incentives to support this sector which, in addition to the crisis caused by the pandemic, is now facing the heavy problem of the lack of semiconductor supplies.

At Group level, Volkswagen obtained the highest number of registrations in April 2021 (280,262), followed by Stellantis (226,000) and Renault (83,916).
