Dacia Sandero Streetway: cheap but chic, 100 HP LPG | Review and Video

The Sandero is now; a whole & rsquo; other story: the compact of Dacia & egrave; protagonist of a radical change like the one that took place with the pi & ugrave; recent generation of the Duster and best represents the evolution of the brand. The Sandero Streetway has a pi & ugrave; modern, simple but more & ugrave; cured. They improve the look of the interiors, the habitability; and comfort on board; also offers much more; technology first. & Egrave; more pleasant to drive and more safety. It always boasts an excellent quality/price ratio and the best choice seems to be that of the bi-fuel petrol/LPG version, the TCE 100 ECO-G, plus; performing but also more & ugrave; economical.

Now it has the LED headlights, there & # 39; & egrave; an 8-inch touch display, height and depth adjustable steering wheel, automatic climate control, ADAS never seen before and much more. The most beautiful car economy of the market suddenly seems to have much more; appeal, but & egrave; really so?

The Sandero today & egrave; Stepway, the small crossover, well received by the Italian market and already; tested by Luigi, and Streetway, protagonist of our test in the bi-fuel version.

DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS

Until a few years ago we saw a Dacia, for example the first Logan, and the thought was: yes, it is cheap but … Today, fortunately, it is not; more so it is. Design is now; fundamental: it has a simple but more & ugrave; current.

The new front is; its business card, with the new headlights and the new light signature help us to immediately distinguish it from the previous version. The new headlights, Y-shaped daytime running lights and low beam, are and automatic ignition & egrave; standard on any set-up. The new light design also makes it look more & ugrave; broad the muzzle and gives it more & ugrave; personality. And & rsquo; the design of the rear lights is also unprecedented.

The windshield pi & ugrave; inclined, the sloping roof line, the most surfaces; tense, but above all shoulders and wheel arches more & ugrave; marked and the roadway more & ugrave; 41 mm wide make it look more & ugrave; low and slender than before. Also new is the design of the wheel covers, which imitate that of the & ldquo; real & rdquo; alloy wheels. If you want, with only 350 Euros, you can put them in 16-inch alloy. Among other details & egrave; changed the shape of the doors and the design of the handles. The design of the rear-view mirrors is also new: they have tried to improve their aerodynamics to try to reduce noises.

The dimensions : length 4088 mm, width 1848, height 1499, with a pitch of 2604 mm. Now it is; more almost 3 cm long, much longer; wide, by almost 12, and with a wheelbase increased by 1.5 to the benefit of habitability.

HABITABILITY AND INTERIORS

The great news & egrave; inside: first cos & igrave; cheap and sometimes a bit & rsquo; sad, now it looks much better: there are certainly no soft plastics (we do not ask too much), for & ograve; it looks better with the dashboard enriched with a fabric-covered insert, which we also find on the doors. Even the air vents have a new shape and finally a pleasant style: the atmosphere is; much improved.

The plastics are rigid but the finishes are a bit & rsquo; more cared for and the passenger compartment is so clean; & egrave; become more & ugrave; welcoming. They have created it with a different approach, creating a different perception of quality: this can also be seen in the comfortable automatic climate controls. The manual one is; standard on the Comfort and to have it automatic you have to add 250 Euros. Wanting to be picky, instead of the 4-spoke steering wheel with a somewhat design; exceeded, they could opt for one to three more races; modern.

The capacity of the storage compartments & egrave; increased: under the central armrest, in the front and rear doors and also on the backrest of the front seats.

Comfort speaking, & egrave; much more; silent than before: a more & ugrave; rigid and the new sound-absorbing panels have greatly improved this aspect. Now it is; more comfortable also because & eacute; springs and shock absorbers absorb and filter the roughness better: I did the test on the classic bollards, the most; unpleasant, and bears them better than cars much more; refined.

The most & ugrave; enthusiasts already know that this new Sandero & egrave; built on the CMF-B platform , which it shares with Renault Clio and Captur, and this, already; on paper, it promised better driving dynamics, less weight and greater stiffness.

In practice on roads that I know well I tried to put it a bit & rsquo; in crisis: this new Sandero moves less than the old one, c & rsquo; & egrave; less roll. Is not serious; certainly a sports car, but pushing it a bit & rsquo; more & ugrave; towards the limit the improved grip is also appreciated. It will not have maybe the precision of other cars (more expensive) but now with the new front end is; much more; pleasant to drive, especially with reassuring behavior.

Stability; cornering & egrave; improved and thanks to the increased wheelbase and more carriageways; wide, it also boasts a better seal. Now it is; capable of instilling greater safety and also a longer journey; longer than usual will not be; never a problem. This new platform has made l & rsquo; even more; handy.

The steering is; very soft, d & rsquo; tourist setting, and not so; precise as maybe I would like it, but & egrave; much better than before. The electric power steering l & rsquo; made it more & ugrave; comfortable to drive in the city (it is much less effort than before) in parking lots and maneuvers in more spaces; restricted.
On our Comfort the rear parking sensors are standard, but if you want extra help & ugrave; the pack City Plus also adds the front ones and the rear view camera with dynamic lines. The disc brakes, front disc and rear drum brakes, are suitable for the Sandero and have never given me any problems.

To the chapter consumption the company declares between 7 and 7.4 liters of LPG per 100 km in the WLTP mixed cycle. In these days, including the one in which we shot the video, between city, suburban and motorway we have traveled about 460 kilometers and at times I have even tried to push it a bit; more due: we recorded an average of 7.7 liters per 100 km between petrol and LPG, so about 13 km per liter.

We must not forget the travel costs : it is ; true that the consumption of LPG & egrave; 20/30% higher than that of petrol, but the price per liter is; less than half & agrave; and you can & ograve; save up to 40% compared to petrol. The petrol tank has a capacity; of 50 liters and that of gas of 40 liters for an autonomy that promises long distances.

ADAS AND SAFETY

Now Sandero & egrave; definitely more; safe: already in the basic version there are ADAS series as the automatic emergency braking (active from 7 to 170 km/h), frontal collision warning and tire pressure sensor. And with only 450 Euros you can add a package that includes the blind spot sensor (active from 30 to 140 km/h), in addition to the front parking sensors and the rear view camera. The new curtain airbags are also making their debut.

ON BOARD TECHNOLOGY three versions. In the entry level version Access there are, among other things, the front and rear headlights with the luminous signature & ldquo; Y-shape & rdquo;, the automatic switching on of the headlights, the support for the smartphone and the ADAS that I already have there; listed.

With the intermediate Essential in addition: cruise Control and Media Control, the height-adjustable driver's seat with armrest and the rear 1/3 and 2/3 reclining seat. If you choose Comfort you also have rear parking sensors, the Media Display with 8 & rsquo; & rsquo; touchscreen. and manual air conditioning.

For the engines , the offer includes three variants of a 1.0 three-cylinder petrol Euro 6D that promise to be more & ugrave; efficient: a naturally aspirated with 65 HP and 5-speed manual gearbox . The basic set-up can be done; have only with this engine. Then c & rsquo; & egrave; the 90 HP turbo version with the brand new 6-speed manual gearbox or combined with the automatic CVT , for the first time on a Dacia.

The most popular version powerful & egrave; our 1.0 TCe 100 ECO-G petrol/LPG with 100 horsepower and the six-speed manual: it will probably end up; to be the favorite of Italians. As you may have noticed, it is not possible to more have diesel, no diesel, which in Italy & egrave; now less requested.

The price list starts from 8,950 Euros, for the less powerful version in the more set up; simple Access, and reaches the 13,600 of the 1.0 TCe from 90hp with the CIVT and in the Comfort version. The new continuously variable automatic transmission has an impact of 1,500 euros. The quality/price ratio continues to be in its favor: it still costs little but offers more; than before.

And & rsquo; just all another Sandero : marketing says that from low cost & egrave; become a smart buy. I really believe that things are a bit & rsquo; changed: first it was chosen because & eacute; it was cheap, now it has a much greater appeal and you could buy it simply because it is; like and & egrave; a good car.

THE ALTERNATIVES

La Sandero & egrave; always in the top ten of the most & ugrave; sold in the difficult and fierce B segment, that of Lancia Ypsilon, Toyota Yaris , Citroen C3, Opel Corsa, the closest cousin; chic Renault Clio , Peugeot 208 and also the renewed Skoda Fabia.

But none can match it: it remains one of the most important; economic on the market and by far the least expensive, with the best quality/price ratio. The Stepway user & agrave; the same arguments to counter those with high wheels, such as Ford Puma, Volkswagen T-Cross and others. And does this new Sandero convince you?
