With a new stepping, the refresh of AMD Ryzen 5000 (test) alias Vermeer as AMD Ryzen 5000XT with up to 5 GHz will start. Two SKUs have already appeared and provide information on the “small” model update from AMD, but also leave questions unanswered. Probably there is a maximum of 100 MHz more clock.
Probably only minimally more clock
As the usually well-informed Twitter user Patrick Schur, who is also active in the ComputerBase forum, has just reported, the indications of a B2 stepping for Vermeer, the new AMD Ryzen 9 5950XT officially up to 5 GHz, is the new one Could take a spearhead in the CPU portfolio from AMD – officially the Ryzen 9 5950X only reaches up to 4.9 GHz, in practice, however, individual models are also up to 150 MHz higher.
B2 Stepping for Vermeer ?! 😮
100-000000059-60_50/34_Y
3.4 GHz (up to 5 GHz)
Stepping: B2
Cores: 16100-000000065-06_46/37_Y
3.7 GHz (up to 4.6 GHz)
Stepping: B2
Cores: 6& mdash; Patrick Schur (@patrickschur_) May 17, 2021
The first new SKU 100-000000059-60_50/34_Y should succeed the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with up to 16 cores and 32 threads at a clock frequency of 3.4 to officially 5.0 GHz.
On the other hand, it is less plausible the second new SKU 100-000000065-06_46/37_Y , which is expected to be used for another hexa-core CPU with 3.7 to 4.6 GHz.
The listed performance data correspond exactly to those of an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, which is why a new edition in the form of an AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT, even at second glance and with possibly more scope for overclocking, only makes very limited sense – unless AMD promises as with Ryzen 3000XT (test) again higher average clock rates in partial load operation.
Finally, the new B2 stepping also comes as a pure “replacement” for the existing model range in the B0- Stepping (“VMR-B0”) in question.
B2 stepping and X570S chipset as a small solution
It is quite possible that AMD will present the new B2 stepping together with the “new” and passively cooled X570S chipset without much fuss. In the meantime, however, the rumor mill has become rather quiet about a “real” refresh in the form of Zen3 + alias Warhol. The new socket AM5, which will also come up with support for DDR5 for the first time, is not in sight before 2022.
