You pay. Ahead of this year's Pride, the city of Malmö has placed a large pink unicorn on Gustav Adolf's square. The sculpture cost the heavily social security-laden municipality 900,000 tax kroner.

According to a press release, the 6 meter high and 10 meter wide unicorn is the result of a collaboration between the city of Malmö and Malmö Pride, “which together make the city nice for hosting WorldPride” in August.
– The unicorn becomes a joy spreader in the city, both among children and adults. Even in its colorful shimmer, it also carries a serious message when it playfully reminds us of the equal value of all human beings. It will also be exciting to see what names the children give the unicorn when pictures of it are spread in different contexts, says Andreas Schönström (S), chairman of the technical committee.
Erland Weerasinghe, unit manager for the event unit at the property and the street office, wants the unicorn to be “eye-catching and elicit joy”.
– The unicorn should radiate hospitality, warmth and love, and also offers seating that is adapted for everyone. It is when we “paint with big brushes” that we make it feel, says Erland Weerasinghe.
Anna Tenfält, project manager for World Pride in Malmö, thinks that the unicorn is “absolutely fantastic”.

– There's something magical about unicorns. They symbolize how e there is a strength in breaking norms and being different. Which is just like this year's Pride theme: #YouAreIncluded. I look forward to seeing all the selfies that will be taken with the unicorn, says Anna Tenfält.
