Deutsche Telekom: Berlin Olympic Stadium will be equipped with 5G

The Berlin Olympiastadion, one of the largest sports facilities in Germany with a seating capacity of 74,475 and also the venue for the home games of Bundesliga club Hertha BSC Berlin, is currently being equipped with the current 5G mobile communications standard across the board by Deutsche Telekom .

5G with up to one gigabit per second

Just in time for the finale of the DFB Cup on May 13 between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, Deutsche Telekom said it installed the most modern 5G cellular system in Germany in the arena, which was built between 1934 and 1936 and last renovated between 2000 and 2004.

The 5G mobile radio system in the Olympiastadion Berlin works with active antennas in which the transmission and reception technology is directly integrated. There is no need for a cable connection to the base station, which enables speeds of up to one gigabit per second.

We have set up a completely new 5G multi-operator system here in the Olympiastadion Berlin. We always use such a system when large objects such as trade fairs, airports or stadiums need to be supplied.

In a first step, the Coubertinsaal, the press conference room and the VIP boxes were equipped with 5G, according to Telekom. The fan shop and the restaurant are already supplied with 5G. Further tests should show how the new 5G cell phone system is compatible with the existing 4G cellular system.

Of course we would like more Supply the interior of the Olympic Stadium. This requires coordination and planning. But the pilot could be realized very quickly. And we are optimistic that we will be able to supply additional areas by the end of the year.

The other network operators will also be connected in the coming days so that spectators can use 5G in the Olympic Stadium independently of the network operator.

Deutsche Telekom and the stadium operator explain further details on the 5G expansion in a three-minute video and in one Post on the network operator's blog.
