Microsoft Patchday: The May 2021 updates for Windows 10 are here

On Patchday in May, Microsoft is releasing various cumulative updates for Windows 10 from version 1507 build 10240 up to and including the current version 2009 build 19042 (“20H2”). The focus is once again on correcting errors and closing security gaps in Windows 10 and Windows Server.

The security-relevant changes on Patchday May address, among other things, the Windows Shell, the Windows kernel as well as handling peripherals and the Windows server.

Microsoft updates systems and applications

Also received .NET Core, .NET Frameworks, Azure IoT and numerous developer tools as well as Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office again important updates.

The cumulative updates will now be rolled out in waves and can be downloaded and installed manually via Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog if required. The installed version can be displayed via Windows + R and the command WinVer.

With the Installation of the current cumulative update will raise the October 2020 update Windows 10 20H2 to build 19042.985, while Windows 10 2004 (“20H1”) now has build number 19041.985.

Microsoft is now combining the cumulative update (LCU) with a so-called service stack update (SSU) so that it is no longer necessary to install it in advance if the April patches have already been installed.

For Windows 10 Version 1909, this is the last regular patch day before support for this version for private users is discontinued.
