Intel Core i-12000: Alder Lake-S with DDR4 and DDR5 in CapFrameX

Intel's upcoming CPU family Alder Lake is expected to introduce a new generation of CPUs as a hybrid processor with up to eight large and eight small cores and support for DDR5 by the end of 2021 as an engineering sample now also appeared for the first time in the benchmark and analysis tool CapFrameX.

Engineering sample with 2.2 GHz and DDR5-4800

As the editors found out directly from the community member “ZeroStrat”, who is responsible for CapFrameX in his role as developer, an engineering sample of the Alder Lake-S processor family is in for the first time ever the database of the analysis tool has been entered. The developer has provided a corresponding screenshot.

The engineering sample, which according to “ZeroStrat” should come from Intel or one of its board partners , which are currently evaluating Alder Lake-S, ran – as usual for an ES-CPU – with a reduced clock rate of 2.2 GHz and was operated with 32 GB DDR5-4800 (4 × 8 GB).

The corresponding entry in the CapFrameX database provides further details about the test run, which does not say anything about the performance of the hybrid CPU.

The author of the database entry has the engineering sample with the designation “Intel 0000 2.2 GHz” in the popular Free-2-Play MOBA Dota 2 (benchmarks) tested.

Alder Lake-S Engineering Sample in CapFrameX

Alder Lake will combine “big cores”, as used in the Core product family, with “small cores”, best known from the Atom product family.

Alder Lake-S is expected to be based on Gracemont and Golden Cove cores. In January, Intel had already shown an executable system with a hybrid CPU.

It is still unclear when Alder Lake-S will appear for desktop PCs. In general, Intel has planned the year 2021 for the Alder Lake CPU family, including the numerous versions for notebooks.

Alder Lake-S also comes with DDR4

As a further entry in the CapFrameX database now confirms, the next desktop CPUs of the 12th core generation alias Alder Lake-S will also be used with DDR4 memory.

The engineering sample was tested with 16 GB DDR4-3200 (2 × 8 GB) also in Dota 2 and using the Vulkan API in Doom, whereby the graphics were output via the IGP.
