Dell is promoting the new 32-inch P3222QE screen as the “4K USB-C Hub Monitor”. Two essential equipment features are named. The IPS display provides 3,840 × 2,160 pixels (4K UHD) and is equipped with a USB-C and a LAN connection.
Many pixels and many connections
With a display diagonal of 31.5 inches, the P3222QE has a pixel density of 140 ppi, which is comparatively high for PC monitors. Primarily designed for work and less for games, the display works with a refresh rate of only 60 Hz. Functions such as FreeSync or G-Sync are not even mentioned in this data sheet.
Instead, in addition to the high resolution, the focus is on ergonomic functions such as the height-adjustable stand with pivot function or the always-active blue light filter alias “Comfort View Plus” for eye protection. The IPS display should support 10-bit colors and represent 99 percent of the sRGB color spectrum. Brightness and contrast of 350 cd/m² and 1,000: 1 are on the typical IPS level. A special backlight is not used.

The numerous connections are intended to make everyday work easier. The USB-C connection can not only transfer image data from a notebook, it can also supply it with up to 65 watts of power. The hub or docking function is achieved through four USB-A sockets and a LAN port (RJ45). Functions such as MAC Address Pass-through, PXE Boot, and Wake on LAN are intended to simplify work in the company network. Dell does not mention a practical KVM switch function, such as in the Philips 439P1. A soundbar (SB521A) can be optionally retrofitted and magnetically attached to the monitor.
Price, specifications and availability
The monitor, which is also equipped with a DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.0, should be available in the USA from May 27th at a price that has not yet been mentioned. No data are yet available for the market launch in Germany.
