Baldur & apos; s Gate actually stands for complex D&D role-playing games with group-based battles. With Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, however, there was also a hack 'n' Slay offshoot based on the Diablo principle in 2001, which was developed exclusively for game consoles. As part of a surprising new release, there is also a PC version.

The game can now be purchased and played again for around 30 euros on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S/X as well as the Nintendo Switch. This is not a completely new edition, but a slightly embellished version of the classic that runs at 60 frames per second and higher resolutions.

The Black Isle Studios also announced the first porting to the PC. It should appear later this year and, if possible, support Steam Remote Play. This technology enables split-screen gaming over the Internet, which is important for Dark Alliance: the title can be played in full on the couch in pairs.

Konsolen-Diablo

With Baldur & apos; s Gate 1 and 2, Dark Alliance only has the name and the reference to the rules in common. Story and gameplay go completely their own way. Ready-made characters are waiting, the focus is clearly on the fight and gamepad control, the action-oriented approach takes linear levels and smaller jump and puzzle passages into account, which provide variety as a substitute for dialogues and the like. In this direction, the game was able to get good ratings, especially since it encountered a gap on consoles that the then permanent genre leader Diablo could not fill. The game successfully avoided direct comparison for 20 years by choosing a platform.

The timing of the new release is no coincidence. With Dungeons Dragons: Dark Alliance, another hack & apos; n & apos; slay role-playing game from the D&D universe is just around the corner that the parent company can advertise Wizards of the Coast. There is also a new release of the successor Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2, which largely relies on the same, unchanged gameplay.
