Ubisoft will in future label games developed by its own studios with the “Ubisoft Originals” seal. The branding was first used for the free-to-play title The Division Heartland. There can be two different reasons for this labeling.

A spokesman for the company confirmed to Eurogamer that the new label would not only apply to The Division offshoot, but to everyone future games from our own production will be used. The group did not name a reason for the new label. However, only two options are currently conceivable.

Such a label can be introduced to suggest quality. In this case, it would be a pure marketing tool that promises a high-quality product and is intended to increase sales figures as a result. However, it is also possible that Ubisoft will appear more as a publisher for third-party studios in the coming months. Competitors such as EA or Square Enix have long since started such programs and are adding indie titles with more innovative concepts to their programs. In this case, the label would separate its own triple-A productions, produced with massive staffing, from such usually smaller projects.
