Nomad Rugged Keychain
This new AirTag case is made of polycarbonate and attaches to a key ring, purse or pet. The AirTag is not actually intended for that, but we have already seen a lot of reactions from people who are planning to. In that case you want the AirTag to be well protected, because dogs can just run in the water and toss through the mud. However, the Rugged Keychain ($ 30) can also be used if you have to deal with rougher conditions, for example on your bike key. You can choose from two enclosures: one that is IP67 waterpoof and another with speaker holes.
Nomad Rugged Keychain
The Pet Tag ($ 30) is a separately sold variant, but is essentially the same as the Rugged Keychain. The metal tag gives the impression that it is a regular dog ID tag, which prevents people from recognizing that it is in fact an AirTag tag.
Nomad gives you the option to have a text engraved on a stainless steel plate. This can be, for example, the name and ID of the dog, but also a telephone number or other contact information. The holder is hardly bigger than the AirTag itself.
Why Apple discourages the AirTag for pets
An AirTag can be used for all kinds of objects, but there are plenty of people who also want to use them to find children and pets. But the AirTag is actually not suitable for this, because the location is not passed on in real time. So you will have to make sure that the dog stays within Bluetooth range or within hearing distance, so that you can play a sound. If you want to release your dog in a larger area, make sure there are enough people with iPhones walking around so that the Find My network can be used to relay the location. The big problem, however, is that a pet moves. If you get the location from 10 minutes ago, the dog could be a few hundred meters away.
But for people who regularly hang a poster on the tree because they have lost their cat, it may well be a solution. You will then at least know where to look and you can also see whether the cat is still changing location, or maybe lying injured in a garden somewhere.
Availability Nomad Rugged Keychain and Pet Tag
The Nomad Rugged Keychain and Pet Tag will be available on August 19 and will cost $ 30 in pre-order. After that, Nomad plans to charge $ 40 for it. You can choose from black or white and two housings, with an IP67 rating or with speaker holes. The AirTag itself is already IP67 water resistant, but with this cover you have some extra assurance that your AirTag will not be & lsquo; drowning & rsquo ;.
Nomad announced more AirTag accessories, such as a Leather Loop and Leather Keychain . You can also buy a cord for your sunglasses, in which you can hide the AirTag. You can find the brand at various stores, although the latest acquisitions will always take a little more time:
- Nomad at Amac
- Nomad at Appelhoes
- Nomad at Bol.com
Check out our other AirTag accessories, if you want to attach your tracker in a different way. Belkin makes a fairly cheap plastic holder for 13.95 euros, but the front and back of your AirTag are not protected.
