The industry believes in tens of thousands of jobs

Tens of thousands of jobs will be added when amusement parks are allowed to open and the restaurants serve a few more hours, Visita believes. But the trade association is annoyed that it takes another two weeks.

TT A message to toast to, perhaps. But the industry wants to open today. Archive.Picture: Magnus Hjalmarson Neideman/SvD/TT From 1 June, the serving permit for restaurants will be extended until 22.30, from today's 20.30. But the fact that it will take another two weeks irritates Visita's CEO Jonas Siljhammar really. – We are not happy with that, as long as we have not seen the facts or evidence that it has any effect, he says. TT: But it's just about two weeks? – It's not just that, after 14 months of pandemic. Every hour counts right now, says Siljhammar. On the other hand, he thinks it is good that the opening hours are now extended by two hours. And together with the amusement parks being allowed to open in June, albeit with certain restrictions, many can count on starting work again. – We can count jobs in the tens of thousands in any case, says Siljhammar. Maybe mainly at the amusement parks, but also two hours extra opening hours at the taverns play a big role for the jobs, according to him. And after countless advancing messages about being able to open again, he feels pretty safe this time. – Yes, I absolutely believe in this. Previously, it has only been said that we drive to a certain date, so we can come back with a message. Now there is a government decision on a date when we can open, says Siljhammar. And in a month or so, who knows, maybe the restaurants can stay open until midnight, he hopes.
