Tesla has sold 518 million of so-called emission rights, a subsidy in the form of a kind of indulgence letter that other car manufacturers must buy from Tesla as a punishment for not building enough “climate-smart” electric cars themselves.
“It is interesting that no major car-related media reports what lies behind Tesla's profit figures,” writes analyst Eric Peters in a comment.
