Rumor: “iPhone 13 gets even bigger camera bump and gets fatter”

The website MacRumors got hold of schematics of the iPhone 13 and concluded that the devices will be thicker than the current iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro would go from 7.4 mm to 7.57 mm, an increase of 0.17 mm. For most people this is hardly noticeable. What is more striking is that the camera bulge is a lot thicker. This goes from a current 1.5mm and 1.7mm to 2.51mm and 3.65mm respectively. In the table below you can see that the increase is quite significant, especially with the Pro. The camera bump thickens to prevent the lenses from protruding too far. Instead of separate lenses that protrude from the housing, as with the iPhone 12 series, Apple would like to make the camera bulge itself thicker.

The camera bulge also becomes larger and length and width, something especially with the iPhone 13 Pro will be on display. There, the bulge at the back grows to a whopping 36 x 37 mm, making it more like the Pro Max in terms of size. The other dimensions are shown in the table.

There's good news too >Maybe all of this doesn't sound so good, because everything seems to be getting bigger and thicker. But there is also a ray of hope to discover, MacRumors notes. The fact that the camera bump on the iPhone 13 Pro gets so big raises hopes that both Pro models will get the same camera technology. You no longer need to purchase a Pro Max model to get the best possible camera with sensor shift stabilization and an improved telephoto lens. With the iPhone 12 series, many people are in doubt: for the best camera you have to have the iPhone 12 Pro Max, but it is a lot bigger and more expensive.

The iPhone 13 Pro can do that. models are straightened. Apple could apply sensor-shift stabilization in both models, for both the wide-angle and the ultra-wide angle lens. There is no indication that the iPhone 13 Pro Max will get better specs for the camera.

The iPhone 13 series could also get a smaller notch and Touch ID. In addition, there is talk of a 120Hz screen, but only on the Pro models. Due to the larger camera bump, various buttons may have to be moved. The side button comes a little lower on the iPhone 13 series, while the mute and volume buttons also slide down a little.

According to MacRumors, the schematics are from a reliable source who has experience with Apple's design plans. They are used by accessory makers, who can already make a first batch of cases for the new devices. Often the schedules are correct, but there may also be minor deviations.
