Coldest April in Europe in 20-40 years

Abroad. This year, April was the coldest in 20 to 40 years in several European countries – from the UK down to the Balkans. SMHI states this in its monthly report.

According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, April 2021 was the coldest April for Europe since 2003, writes SMHI.

In Switzerland and France, it was the coldest April since 2001, in Austria, Serbia , Poland and Hungary since 1997, in the United Kingdom since 1989, in the Netherlands since 1986, in Germany since 1980.

Dublin Airport in Ireland measured its coldest April since the start of measurements 78 years ago. The average minimum temperature for April was the lowest in the United Kingdom since 1922 and the lowest in Belgium since 1956.

Some countries also had unusually high frost days for April. On average, both Germany and the United Kingdom had about 13. This made April this year the second frostiest in Germany after April 1929 and the frostiest in Britain since the statistics began to be kept in 1960.
