Mozambique: protection from cyclones

The objective of the project: protection of the rain forest around Mount Gorongosa

Project implementation: the 300,000 coffee trees and 50,000 native species of trees have been on a 145-hectare area of newly planted. The Gorongosa project plans for the year 2020, an additional 150 hectares of reforestation

Project scope: 400 small-scale farmers involved in the project. Of the 1000 people live in the environment of the mountain

In March 2019, the cyclone swept Idai about Africa and brought the continent the worst Floods of the last 20 years. Mozambique was particularly hard hit. The tropical storm destroyed houses and flooded fields. A lot of people died.

Idai left behind a scene of devastation. Scientists assume that it can’t get worse would be if it were the rain forest around the Gorongosa national Park in Central Mozambique. As the cyclone hit the Region, absorbed the intact Ecosystem, especially the wetlands where the largest part of the apocalyptic grace water masses.

The rain forest is home to many plant and animal species. However, deforestation and any conflicts with rebel groups-the green Paradise threaten. The government of Mozambique, in collaboration with the American non-governmental organisation, The Carr Foundation launched a project for the sustainable cultivation of coffee, with the not only is the Ecosystem preserved, but also the peace in the Region should be restored.
