Fear of US sanctions due to Nord Stream 2

In a rare show of Unity, Democrats and Republicans have voted in the US Congress for sanctions because of the Nord Stream Baltic sea pipeline 2. Now, the German economy warns of the consequences.

“The current US sanction proposals would have harmful effects, especially companies from friendly European countries such as Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland and the European energy policy at the mercy of the United States,” said Wolfgang Büchele, Chairman of the Eastern Committee of German economy.

This “inevitable split” between the US and the EU, for both sides, very harmful. “We continue, therefore, unchanged, to the fact that in the USA the votes to prevail, warn of sanctions for European companies and for a close transatlantic Alliance to advertise,” said Büchele.

“European energy issues are, and will remain, a matter for the Europeans,” says Büchele more. “In Europe, we need all the options to solve new pipeline capacity, such as Nord Stream 2, the transit of gas through Ukraine, and the possibility of import of LNG to the tasks facing us is climate change, and Germany is planning to phase out coal and nuclear energy provides.”

The Left-economic policy-makers, Klaus Ernst said: “It is intolerable, such as the USA to interfere in internal European Affairs. You threaten European companies, just because they want to sell their own LPG in Europe. The measure is full.” Europe needs to change, compared to the USA, his gait. Counter-measures were necessary – for example, should be thought about a special tax for the Import of the gefrackten LNG gas from the US.

The bill for U.S. sanctions because of Nord Stream 2 had taken an important hurdle. The Foreign Affairs Committee in the U.S. Senate had approved the bipartisan draft by the end of July. In a next step, the Senate and then the house of representatives would have to vote on the bill. Both chambers should give the Congress a green light, should US President Donald Trump to sign the law, so that it enters into force.

Ukraine gas pipeline will be negotiated in September

For September, a further round of Negotiations between the EU, Russia and Ukraine on a new transit agreement has been recognised. The Federal government has long been to ensure that Ukraine continues to be a “substantial” gas transit runs.
