In the Chaos stage, on the day before the race was ended abruptly, so that Alaphilippe congratulated afterward. Or it was a conference for overall victory?

Julian Alaphilippe had to prematurely tear down

The local hero here on the 20. Stage could satisfy the yearning of his countrymen after the first French victory since 34 years, but still, none of them believed in more. Too much Alaphilippe, who rode today in the unfamiliar blue Jersey, his team had exhausted in the past three weeks. And in contrast to the Leading Bernal, he is not a climber. 13 kilometers from the finish Alaphilippe had to let rip, so he said goodbye once and for all from a place on the podium.

After the premature termination of the 19. Stage had the tour operators in the short term, the route of the 20. Stage changed. Due to a landslide, the Cormet de Roselend impassable. Instead, it went direct to the flat from Albertville to the final climb to Val Thorens (2365 meters). Along for the ride. Wait and see. A drive-by. That was the tactic from the German professional cyclist Emanuel Buchmann, and drive from fifth place in the overall standings on the podium. He drove in the twelve-member group to Bernal, last year’s winner Geraint Thomas and Steven Kruijswijk. About two kilometres before the target register’s team had to let helper, Gregor Mühlberger, tear down. From now on, the German was alone in the fight for third place.

Stage Winner Nibali

While the Italian Vincenzo Nibali in the front way, and also a significant stage victory, attacked Buchmann 600 meters from the finish. The future Tour de France winner, Bernal was fourth fastest today with the overall second-placed Thomas, who patted him approvingly on the shoulder, across the finish line. Buchmann rolled together with the total placed Kruijswijk a third. 25 seconds separate the two is approximately 3250 kilometres and 20 days.

“Fourth is really cool,” said the always level-headed Buchmann, compared to the ARD, and showed no disappointment at narrowly missing a podium place. “Thomas and Kruijswijk were not too strong, was simply not there.” And Bernal? The Colombian is in front of a historic victory: He is the first South American to win the tour de France. Emanuel Buchmann: “He has earned it.” And Alaphilippe? The sat after the race with his head bowed to the ground, disappointed to have felt the last few meters everything given. Of course, the media took a picture of him, but the majority cared for Bernal, the 22-year-old next Tour winner. Alaphilippe had to be by not to it’s constraints. He had congratulated him already in advance.
