As in many other cities of the “Fridays for Future”-student demonstrations take place in Dortmund for many weeks. Even city Manager and the mayor were impressed and were excited about the Demos in addition to have an impact and to show that you are interested in the Concerns of the students. Quickly it came to the cooperation between you and the curator of the exhibition, Bernd Pohlenz. Pohlenz is itself a signatory, the father of six children and four-time grandfather.

Signatories from all continents

He had thought to himself: “If a child is now four years old, it will probably experience the change into the next century. And then, of course, thoughts of the future.” Pohlenz is in charge of the Portal “toonpool”, – it is a collection of nearly 300,000 drawings of 2500 artists from 120 countries – enough Material so to draw out the Full.

The fruits from the own country is not accessible…

From this huge Pool Pohlenz has selected 100 Cartoons and cartoons for the exhibition.

The signatories come from all corners of the world: from the Netherlands to Australia, from China to Burkina Faso. So different in their origin countries, so different are the signatories to bring the climate crisis to paper. Pensive, flashy, colorful, black-and-white. ironic, funny and in a way that a remains the Laughter stuck in the throat. The title image of the “Mona Greta” – designed by Pohlenz itself. The subject is not accidental: the Mona Lisa, the world famous paintings of nature, observer and all-round genius of Leonardo da Vinci, in combination with the student Greta Thunberg, of Leading a worldwide movement to rescue the world’s climate, exactly 500 years after the death of the visionary.

Some of the signatories, to keep other Nations the mirror: the love of the German people to their cars, the ignorant climate policy of the US President, Trump, the Western industrial Nations, undermine the developing countries, literally the water. Also, a satirical reckoning with the so-called environmental zones in German cities is not missing: During a few-Meter-long street is car-free, are the redirect lines with smelly cars clogged. Also, the statement by the FDP Chairman Christian Lindner, you should leave the climate protection professionals, is the subject of The Berlin Reichstag stands under a glaring sun in a parched landscape.

Perfect timing for the exhibition

The success of the exhibition is already noticeable. No wonder, it fits the Show but in these days like the fist on the eye: Greta Thunberg and the student demos are all the rage, and probably also ensured that, at least in Germany, the European elections, so a good result for the environmental party “The Greens” has brought.

Happiness on the summit on a mountain of electrical waste…

Environmental protection has for the first Time since the Ökobwewegung in the 1980s boom. Today shows a different and more pronounced than 40 years ago – such as the destruction of the environment, our climate has long damaged. Or to put it differently: We are cutting resistant to the Branch on which we sit – and not to just listen to. Therefore, it was to demand “the special prerogative of youth, of changes,” reads the brochure for the exhibition.
