Juso-chief Kühnert is committed to democratic socialism and a dream to nationalize BMW. This provides a shake of the head, even in his own party.

The Chairman of the “young socialists in the SPD”, a short-Jusos, is a socialist. The declared Kevin Kühnert on demand of the weekly newspaper “die Zeit”. In the time Interview, he spoke out for a democratic socialism as an “attempt to come up to the Ideal of a free, equal and solidary society all the time.”

Kühnert could imagine, to socialise, for large corporations such as BMW or real estate company. “Without a Form of collective Overcoming of capitalism is not at all conceivable,” said the Chairman of the youth organisation of the SPD.

Unlike some of his predecessors, Kühnert is considered to be hopeful of the SPD. He is in the party bodies and the media, struggled at the beginning of 2018 against a renewed coalition with the CDU and the CSU and had been destroyed by hail Angela Merkel almost the formation of the government. This could explain why his socialist Vision for loud indignation, although Kühnert what only require repeated, the Jusos, for decades.

Utopia and mischief

For many Conservative and Liberal in Germany – 30 years after the Failure of socialism in the GDR alone, the thoughts of an end of capitalism off-limits. The Federal Minister of transport, Andreas Scheuer of the CSU is called Kühnert in the “picture”newspaper with a “lost dreamers” with “verschrobenem Retro view of the world.” The Free Democrats would defend “the Social market economy against the socialist excesses,” said FDP General Secretary Linda Teuteberg. Your party friend Moritz Kracht does not make reference on Twitter to the fact that the state-owned enterprises of the GDR produced in BMW quality.

Many party members go the distance to Kühnert. “He speaks in an Interview about a social utopia,” said SPD General Secretary, Lars Klingbeil on Thursday in Berlin. “This is not my and also no demand of the SPD.” The Hamburg SPD Deputy Johannes Kars called Kühnerts ideas are not “disorderly conduct”, the election campaign of his party and asks: “What is the smoke?”

Even Marxists can be Chancellor

The Deputy SPD Chairman Ralf Stegner defends against Kühnert in an interview with DW. “That you’re talking about the society of the future, global justice issues responsive, that’s useful,” says Stegner. “And who, if not the Juso-Chairman should do that, anyway?” Stegner refers to the fact that the Jusos were always left to the parent party. “Earlier Juso-Chairman, such as Gerhard Schröder or Andrea Nahles commented or so,” says SPD Deputy of the DW. Gerhard Schröder attributed to Juso times, even the Marxists-bearing. As Chancellor he was from 2003, then economic reforms, many as a neoliberal subject.

On the way to the people’s party: in 1959, the SPD was adopted in Bad Godesberg from Marxism

The party left Hilde Mattheis jumps Kühnert in an interview with DW. “We have in our policy that we build on the basis of democratic socialism, our fundamental values”. In your “Hamburg program” of 2007, the SPD writes in fact: “democratic socialism remains for us the Vision of a free, just and solidary society”.

Class struggle is cancelled

But how much socialism is still in the party, the called already since 1890, the “social democratic” and “socialist” in the name? 1959 had adopted the SPD with their “Godesberg program” final of Marxist ideas. And after the end of the GDR in 1990, there were mainly East German social Democrats, who did not want to hear the term socialism.

Bernd Faulenbach is an expert in the history of the labor movement and social democracy. He is a Professor at the University of Bochum and member of the SPD

“For many in the social democratic party of democratic socialism ‘is, therefore, only an historical term”, says the Bochum historian Bernd Faulenbach the DW. He was from 1989 until 2018 Chairman of the historical Commission of the SPD. “For some in the party, but that is still a in the direction of political determination, a kind of corrective to the idea for society as a whole,” said Faulenbach. “And both are, in principle, the program next to each other.”

Real existing expropriation

That Kühnert is speaking but specifically of expropriation, could damage the SPD in the European elections. In surveys, a large majority of the German people against expropriation is speaking as a political Instrument. “The concept of expropriation is frowned upon a bit,” confirms Faulenbach. “But he stands as a possibility in the basic law and the majority in the SPD don’t want to change that. In view of the great problems we have for many years, with land prices, you will not make the to the Disposition.”

While the SPD discussed the concept of expropriation only makes the CSU-Minister Scheuer, by the way. Be the Ministry reported that currently 65 of expropriation procedures, which relate mainly to land of farmers. With the current housing shortage it has to do however nothing. Scheuer it comes to road construction, not to socialism.
