The Turkish government party, the AKP does not recognize the results of the municipal elections in Turkey, in part. EU Vice-President Timmermans is reminiscent of basic democratic values.
The ACP should comply with basic democratic principles. The calls for EU-Vice-President of the Commission, Frans Timmermans, in the newspaper “world on Sunday”. After a tight outcome of the local elections in Ankara and Istanbul, the party had contested from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the result. For Timmermans, a disconcerting response: “The Turkey has been removed in the past few years, with the great speed of the European values. We hope that this will be even worse by the fact that the AKP, the election results respected in the local elections.”
Erdogan’s party had reached, according to unofficial results from across the country, around 44.3 per cent, but lost in the metropolises of the country in popularity and challenged the results. Of course each party will have the right to have a choice of a result of check, if there is reasonable doubt, said the Dutchman Timmermans, who is also the top candidate of the party of European socialists for the European elections. However, it is important that the Turkish authorities can check the results of “independent and the ACP acknowledges the result at the end”. This expect the EU, “because that is democracy.”
Timmermans noted that in the municipal elections, those forces would have won, who wanted a rapprochement with the West. “The need to recognise Erdogan, however, and try to come up with his policy on the European values.”
However, no departure
According to the current state of four of the five largest cities in the country to be ruled in the future by the Opposition.
