Nevermind forever: Kurt Cobain’s 25. Death

What would have become of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, if he had not shot in the head? Probably not what he and many others of his young colleague – was: an eternal Idol.

“F**k you all, this is the last song of the evening,” says Kurt Cobain into the microphone. It is the 18. In November 1993, the MTV Unplugged Gig Nirvana will be recorded. He sits there in a thick sweater, with stringy blond hair. He looks tired. He has excruciating pain in the stomach, he gets not also with hard drugs way. He has argued in the run-up to the concert with MTV and threatened to release the recording to burst. He has quarreled with his drummer Dave Grohl about the loud way of playing, in short: the General rehearsal was a disaster. Hours later, on the stage, you notice nothing of the Trouble. The Band harmonizes, between the pieces a little bit of bullshit is made, Cobain around and sit on his swivel chair and makes sarcastic jokes. When he sings, he is quite the Song. This concert will go down in the history of music.

“I don’t have a gun”

Five months later, Kurt Cobain kills himself. It’s been two days dead, when he is found. The drugs Cutlery next to the corpse and the autopsy revealed He has set a last shot of Heroin, then the barrel of his shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Bitter irony: In the famous Nirvana Song “Come as you are” is a line of text: “And I swear that I don’t have a gun” (I swear, I don’t have a gun). When he died, he was 27-years-old – a dangerous age for young Rockstars: 27 have died already, many other rock idols such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison or Amy Winehouse.

Music for the “Generation X”

Kurt Cobain’s suicide is not only the end of Nirvana, but also the beginning of the end of Grunge, this defiantly then spit rock music, which has conquered in the late 1980s by Seattle from the pop world. With the maladjusted children of the 90s heaved against the colorful prilblumen world of that decade. These “Generation X” had been found with the highly emotional, desperate, injured and unruly Kurt Cobain is an Idol and the music of Nirvana was hard, wild, break – the right Soundtrack to long hair, ripped Jeans and lumberjack shirts. And a very clear negation of the “Loves-you-All”the time spirit, came in the 1990s with Techno, and colorful love parades.

The lyrics were not political. It was more about the everyday life, problems of daily life, violence, neglect, a bad home, a beating father, EMS cannot be understood. With loud guitars, hard hitting Drums, and rough vocals, the Grunge Bands, contrary to cast their music to a world that had just been from nuclear anxiety and the Cold war freed, and there was no more to protest, seemingly so much.

Cobain had donors, its own kind of protest: Evil sarcasm, especially against his money, the record industry, which he called “big, dirty capitalist” label and his Fans, whom he threw a “F**k you” to the head – wanted to be even though they had made it all the to what he of a rock star.

Kurt Cobain killed himself in April 1994 with a shotgun. Career, drugs, and a sick stomach were stronger than his family. Jim Morrison, the feeling of life in the late 1960s in the Person. The head of the Doors expressed what many could not put into words and lived them, violent, obscene, with all the consequences, without regard to his Band, which he eventually had to leave also. Morrison retreated to Paris, where he died in July 1971 in a bathtub in a cardiac arrest.

Brian Jones was a founding member of the Rolling Stones. While the Rest of the Band was limited to maintain the Image as a Blues game at the end of brats and don’t make party excesses to the main employment, used Jones the complete range of mind-expanding substances. The Stones was too much, they threw him out. Jones drowned in July 1969 in his swimming pool.

Jimi Hendrix, the misunderstood Rock icon, Idol, the drug generation, a Symbol of the hippie movement, the guitar God. His career lasted only four years – at some point it no longer worked out between him and his people musically. Frustrated, he pulled back, took drugs. One morning in September 1970, he swallowed the tablets, nine-bedroom, vomited in his sleep and choked to death.

In the case of Janis Joplin, it all started at the same time: Singing, booze, drugs, and career. The Bands that played with her, and adorned themselves with their exceptional Blues-tube, for an undisturbed life of the party, there was plenty of supply of intoxicants. The Manic Street Preachers were a late answer to the Punk of the 1970s: Flash Shirts, make-up, nasty texts. If someone doubted your credibility, scratched singer Richey Edwards with a knife, the skin – that such appearances were a sign of a mental illness, recognized a few. Out of the silent room to the world of success

Kurt Cobain was not, in fact, not necessarily the revolutionary with the outstretched middle finger he gave to the outside. The his days, at least, books suspect, have been published in 2002 in a book. Sketches, letters, shopping lists and other checklists to read. Nothing, what could suggest that it was a record of one of the most important rock idols of the 1990s.

All knew of his drug addiction – he was not the only one out of the Grunge scene who had discovered the Heroin for himself – but no one could look inside his head.

His band mates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl knew of course what was going on. One day, Grohl out of boredom wrote a Song about Kurt, which he called “A Friend Of A Friend”:

“He needs a quiet room with a lock to keep him in . . .
He’s never been in love but he knows just what love is
He says nevermind and no one speaks
He thinks he drinks too much
Cause when he tells his two best friends
‘I think I drink too much’ – no one speaks.”

(He needs a quiet room in which he is trapped… He’s never been in love, knows what love is. He says: don’t worry. And no one says a thing. He thinks he’ll drink too much, because if he talks about it with his two best friends, then nobody says a thing.)

Months later, in September 1991, appeared on the Nirvana Album “Nevermind” that would change the rock world in a sustainable way. First Song: “Smells like Teen Spirit” – until today, a hymn, according to “Rolling Stone” one of the best Songs of all time on one of the best albums of all time.

The Album “Nevermind” sold 30 million times

“I can’t take it anymore here”

It rained, prices, tours, TV appearances, Video, Awards, other publications, the next successful long-player “In Utero”, and finally, the MTV-Unplugged Gig – a kind of accolade for Bands and musicians. The steeper the climb, you went with Nirvana, the more dirty it was Kurt Cobain. Career, drugs, the sick stomach – for him, it was too much. In February 1994, Nirvana went on a European tour, the last concert was on 8. April in Dublin to take place. But already on 1. March broke Nirvana the Tour. Of all places in Munich were you for the last Time on the stage. The present 3000 Fans had had had no idea how it is already around the sick front man. Days later, he tried to take with sleeping pills. His wife, the rock singer Courtney Love, found him, in the hospital, he was brought back to life.

But, at that time, Cobain completed with everything. Neither the success of Nirvana, and his pals from the Band, his wife and his little daughter had a real Chance to prevent the suicide. In his last letter to Courtney, he wrote: “You know that I love you and that I, Frances love. I’m so sorry … I don’t know where I’m going now, I’m just here.”

A monument in Cesena

On 5. April Kurt Cobain’s death is the 25th anniversary. Time. “Nevermind,” he would perhaps say – don’t sweat it. He is still there. Because his most famous Song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is one of the biggest legacies in rock music.

Many musicians have set Cobain, Nirvana and this Song in the last two decades, a monument – one of the bombastic comes from Italy: last July, the huge music project Rockin’1000 has played in the stadium of the small Italian town of Cesena “Smells like Teen Spirit” live with hundreds of drums, guitars, bass and a powerful chorus. This was not the first Time. In July 2015 she had lured in this way, Cobain’s friend Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters to Cesena.
