30 percent profit slump in the Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn expects the crisis year of 2018 due to the necessary investments in the areas of punctuality, personnel and vehicles with a further decline in profit. This year, the operating profit will go back to a good 1.9 billion euros, informed of the state of the group at the balance sheet press conference in Berlin. Sales are forecast to rise slightly to over € 45 billion.

Track boss Richard Lutz pointed out that in spite of all the problems with the quality of the traffic on the Rail to be determined. This is causing but “growing pains”, for example on the rail network. In the coming years, the Federal government plans to invest one billion more than in the past in the redevelopment of the network.

Railway will annually set 20,000 employees

The investments in vehicles, or in Personal annually, more than 20,000 employees are to be set – can’t cope with the railway on its own. After deduction of taxes and interest payments on the almost 20 billion euros of debt, only a net profit of 542 million euros remained for the group to 2018. It’s not even enough to pay the dividend of EUR 650 million to the Federal government. Since the organization this year alone, 2.2 billion euros for the investment in higher punctuality, prepares the car for the sale or IPO, the international transportation subsidiary, Arriva.
