2021 the summer time. At least in some States. A key Committee of the EU Parliament agreed. Why is this taking so long, at times confusing. Bernd Riegert from Brussels.

The time has expired for the summer and winter time. Therein, the EU Commission and the European Parliament agree. The relevant committees of the EU Parliament, says MEP Peter Liese, who has incorporated it into the time issue.

Now, then, given also the lead Committee for Transport and tourism, with a large majority of his blessing. The chamber could follow by the end of March. Then the consent of the 28 EU member States is still missing.

Jean-Claude Juncker: Hurtig the desire of the transition-weary citizens to meet

The procedure according to the German will?

The wet-brash announcement by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in September, it will all go very quickly, therefore premature. This could rely Juncker, but on an Internet-survey among EU citizens. Unexpectedly, many of the participants and rejected by an 80 percent majority the time change as. However, the survey was not representative, because three million of the 4.6 million votes came from Germany. EU diplomats from the smaller countries of the EU meckerten therefore, behind closed doors, the EU Commission wants to impose in a populist Upsurge, the other States of the German will. So the EU was slowed-Commission in accordance with all the rules of art.

Juncker wanted to abolish the time change, probably already this spring, before the European elections in may claim to have the will of the people to deeds. However, the member States demanded transitional periods until 2021. A good thing to have while, especially in the EU. As a compromise for the repeal of the “regulation for the time conversion” is now called 2020, in the spring or in the autumn.

The members of the EU, take your time

Now – that is in June – want to decide the competent Ministers of the member States, first of all, when and where, in the future, which time will apply. Because some of the EU members – including Britain, Greece and Portugal – want to hold on to the old regime, and furthermore, twice a year between summer and winter time change.

Cyprus, the Netherlands, Denmark, France and Ireland have not yet decided. The rest of the States want to abolish the time change, but must specify how much time is to now apply all year round: summer or winter time.

Peter Liese: do Not wait too long

Why all this takes so long, said the members of the European Parliament Peter Liese of the DW: “It takes time to coordinate in order to give the member States the opportunity to. It would be really important that we have a total patchwork quilt.” If you drive in the future, from Hamburg via the Netherlands and Belgium to France, it must be at once moving and not three times, called Liese. Airlines, Railways, transportation companies would have to make adjustments. “But you don’t need two years. This is faster,” says the time expert of the Conservative.

The Zeitgeist changes

As a precaution, the Parliament is calling for a “coordination network” of member countries and, of course, a representative. Whether there really is Chaos breaks out, if at the time the EU sets the clock, you see. Finally, there is the uniform time change in the EU only since the year 2002. And even before that, life in the EU was possible.

Most of the countries of the earth know anyway, no summer time, only 73 this year. There are States in which only a part of the area surrounded, for example, Canada or the USA. 69 States have abolished the summer time, they had once again. The EU has already three time zones from Portugal in the West to Cyprus in the East. Also the functioning of the internal market, or flight plans, so far, not prevented. Sure is, that the clocks on the next 30. March will be presented. In the whole of the EU.
