Neuschwanstein castle back to square 1

The “fairy tale king” Ludwig II built Neuschwanstein castle remains the biggest tourist attraction in Bavaria. Popular with visitors destinations in Bayreuth and Munich.

With around 1.5 million guests in the year 2018, the fairy tale was the castle in the Allgäu once again the most popular destination in Bavaria. The Ministry of Finance announced on Monday in Munich. A total of more than five million visitors have visited in the past year, the state-owned palaces, castles and residences in Bavaria, an increase of 5.1 percent.


Many of the visitors also saw the other Ludwig castles. After Linderhof 437.000, according to Herrenchiemsee more than 371.000 people came.

New Highlight in Bayreuth

A great magnet for visitors was the re-opened margravial Opera house in Bayreuth. After extensive restoration of this unique Monument of Baroque theatre culture and UNESCO shines as a world heritage site back to its original colour and splendour.

The Königsbaus of the residence in Munich was opened in 2018, a special Highlight in the heart of the Bavarian capital.
