The Pacific holiday Paradise of Palau wants to ban all sun protection products with substances for coral harmful.
President Thomas Remengesau confirmed on Friday a law adopted by the Parliament.
The law against the coral toxic sun creams to 1. January enter into force in 2020. Who is it anyway and get caught, you have to expect the equivalent of 880 Euro fine. Palau’s President also announced that all such creams seizures, when they are brought by foreign tourists into the country.
Remengesau urged to keep a “proper balance between education and deterrence of tourists”. In most conventional sun creams, among other things, the chemicals oxybenzone and Octinoxate are included, the coral bleaching or death.
Palau – located between Australia and Japan, consists of more than 350 Islands, but only has about 20,000 inhabitants. For some time it is reinforced on eco-friendly tourism. Per year, approximately 100,000 tourists, mostly from Asia and the USA. Similar plans, there are also in Hawaii, where 2021 a ban to enter into force, as well as on the Caribbean island of Bonaire.
