The Pew Research Center published a study in Europe of highly controversial subjects – to the Muslims about the relationship of the Europeans. Result: Depending on the Region, the answers vary quite considerably.

The wall, the Europe up to 1989 average, is physically like a long time ago. Culturally, however, it is still – at least have some parts that are not sanded through the rain border traffic is still far. A new study by the US Pew Research center suggests at least that the attitude of the Europeans to be presented in the European Public opinion is currently heavily discussed: about your attitude to Muslims and Jews; for the same-sex marriage; to have an abortion or their relation to their own culture.

Clearly the crack that runs through Western and Eastern Europe, to Muslims, for example, of the attitude of the respondents. The largest readiness of Muslims as a part of the family to recognize (for example by marriage) showed the Norwegians. 82% answered the respective question with “Yes” – closely followed by the Swedes with 80 and, easy-to-cut off the fins with 66 percent. Similarly, also the Dutch and Belgians show up with 88 and 77 per cent. Also the Spaniards (74 percent) and France (66 percent) have a high tolerance to recognize.

Different appreciation: Muslims in Europe

In Germany, 55 per cent in the midfield, similar to the direct neighbors, the Austrians and the Swiss, in which the approval rates are comparable. In the Eastern neighbourhood, the willingness decreases. So could imagine only a third of poles (33 percent), to have Muslim relatives. Under the Hungarians, it is only a fifth (21 per cent) among the Czechs, only a good tenth (12 percent). More in the South-East and East, the willingness increases again. So can well imagine the half of Croatians (57 percent) and almost half of Slovaks (47 percent) than relatives. Low-key, Bulgarians, Romanians, Greeks and Russians show: In these countries, around a third answered each question with a Yes.

Appreciation of one’s own culture

Open the respondents of all countries against the Jews. – Jewish relatives, were able to present according to the report, at best, the low countries, with 96 percent, followed by the Norwegians (95 per cent) and the Danes (92 percent). In Germany, the country that is responsible for the destruction of the European Jews, were able to imagine almost two-thirds (69) of the Jews as related. At least this is the citizens of the heavily Muslim Bosnia: were There only 37 percent of Jews than members of the family welcome.

Controversial: the marriage of homosexual people

In the case of Western and Eastern countries in Europe there are also differences in the question of the appreciation of their own culture. The strongest consent is the question of whether one’s own culture is superior to foreign, in Russia with 69 percent, followed by Romanians (66 per cent) and Bulgarians (69 percent). More self-confident, the Greeks are not alone: 89 percent answered Yes to the question. The slightest appreciation of the own culture in the Spanish (20 per cent), Belgium (21 per cent) and the Netherlands (31 percent). In France, only a third (36 percent) holds one’s own culture is superior. Germany, with 45 per cent in a midfield, which also includes the poles and Czechs with 55. Also Slovaks and Hungarians have 44, and 46 per cent a moderate positive relationship to their culture.

Numerous ideological trenches

Clearly the distance between West – and East-Europeans in the matter of the marriage of homosexual couples. Support is highest in Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands (86 – 88) percent. There are other Western countries, including Germany, with 75 to follow. France, with 73 and Spain with 77 percent. Among the Central European countries, the approval is solely in the Czech Republic, 65 percent, relatively high. However, almost two-thirds (59 percent) reject in neighboring Poland, the marriage of homosexual couples. Higher still, the rejection in Romania (74 percent) and Bulgaria (79 percent). Peak values they reached in Bosnia (84 percent), Lithuania (85 percent) and Russia (90 percent).

The Church as a transcendent instance – so it’s your choice, most Europeans

In the question of the relationship between the state and Religion the rift between the East and the West is, however, less deep. The leader of those who argue for a separation of the two fields are Sweden and Finland with 80 and 77 percent, followed by the Bosnians, the occurrence of 76% for a separation. Overall, the citizens of almost all European countries support the separation. Alone in Russia, Belarus and Bulgaria are undecided citizens, each with 50 percent. To ensure that the state supports Religion, to vote, a majority alone of the citizens in the European periphery: the Georgians (52 per cent) and Armenians (59 percent).

The study leaves no doubt: There is an ideological dig through Europe with the Western States on the one hand, and the Eastern on the other hand, draws a total of. But in addition to this there are numerous other ditches, which divide Europe. Because even within the individual countries, the question of the Pew center, are very controversial.
