Golden October on the German job market: The unemployment figures fall sharply, to 2.2 million. The rate is for the first time under the mark of five percent. And there are hundreds of thousands of open positions.
Thanks to the autumn upturn the number of unemployed in Germany fell in October to 2,204 million. This is the lowest value in the month since the reunification. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 points to 4.9 percent. It was thus for the first time since the beginning of the calculation by the Federal employment Agency (BA) under the Five percent mark. Compared to the previous month, the number of job seekers fell to 53.000. Compared to the previous year, they decreased by of 185,000, the BA announced on Tuesday in Nuremberg. Authorities chief Detlef Scheele, said: “unemployment and under-employment in the month of October.”
Economists make for the development of mainly seasonal effects such as increased settings after the summer break. The labour market benefited from the good economic situation in the country. However, the prospects of many companies have deteriorated due to international uncertainties.
Slightly lower expectations had recently displayed, the Ifo business climate index. Experts but only as a temporary damper. A trend reversal is not in sight. Also the number of Vacancies is increasing
