Is there really a “German Angst”, which paints an ironic picture abroad? After that, the history Museum asks in his current exhibition: “the fear of a German feeling?”.

“Fear” long ago, it has managed the word into English – and as a typical German feel to it. In August, the London newspaper “The Times asked,” in your editorial on the causes of the ugly Ausländerhatz of Chemnitz. The answer supplied is equal to: “German Angst”! If you are looking for the term in Google, pushes to an extensive Wikipedia entry. But there is the phenomenon actually? The people in Germany are more anxious than elsewhere?

Curator Judith Kruse

The Museum exhibition in Bonn, suggests this conclusion, but before a response. “In Germany, a higher emotionality prevails,” says curator Judith Kruse. “The Germans are looking especially for security,” adds Hans Walter Hütter, President of the Foundation house of history. Anxiety is a Central phenomenon. But typically German? Two years ago, when the idea for the Exhibit was lifted from the baptism, they have identified approximately 30 such collective Fears. An example of the Display is now limited to four – immigration, nuclear war, environmental destruction, and Monitoring.

Merkel: “We can do it!”

Over 300 exhibits gathered in the Exhibition, including films, posters, newspaper clippings, display boards, letters, and many other testimonies. A loud bald heads with printed bar code, a photo-warns about the “total collection” in 1983, when the Computer came up, and the census of decency. From the speakers, Angela Merkel’s insurance sounds: “We can do it!”, while the Chancellor is entrained in the model of the düsseldorf Carnival float of a wave of refugees. The forest to die broke, also the the Show of shows, in the 1980s, as Fears such as the threat of nuclear war or the influx of refugees from Eastern Europe at the beginning of the 1990s.

A Lot Of Material For Discussion

The forest to die as an exhibition theme

So everything is already there? It’s not all so wild? This could be a record of the exhibition. But that would put into perspective the threats of the past. And in fact, the President of the Foundation, Hütter of fear speaks as a “wave-like phenomenon,” the propagation and amplification of the media are not entirely innocent.

But how exactly anxiety to the collective feeling is? Who benefits? Why did so many Germans afraid of immigration and Alienation, if it is you, however, economical – and proven – never been so good went? Why return to the voters of the established parties, the same crowd way back? The exhibition in the house of history, that’s for sure, provides few answers, but lots and lots of discussion.
