In Spain, cross with the cruise

The Iberian Peninsula is goal number One for the European cross. Tourist magnets such as Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca have reached your Limit, because the flood of passengers is not yet properly managed.

The first Running of the “Symphony of the Seas” (see article image) this spring, had all the Spaniards as harmonious. Biel Barceló of the organization “Agrupación Ciudadana Ciutat de S’Arenal” is one of the growing number of Spaniards who believe that there must be limits to the mass tourism: “the cruise tourism is harmless in the light of what we experience here every day in El Arenal,” says the activist who can’t get used to the noisy and drunken German: “Cruiser-vacationers are less noticeable.”

In cities such as Ibiza, Palma or Barcelona a lot more people will probably end up at a day at the airport with a cruise ship, mostly only on weekends and maybe once the week arrives. However, giants such as the “Symphony of the Seas”, which has its home port, how many other cruise ships in Barcelona, many of the Spaniards discomfort.

The gespaltende ratio of the Spaniards to cruise tourism

Electric mobility is gaining Terrain, to cart around tourists in the city or to the beach. In Palma electric bikes and cars were provided. In Barcelona there is a Metro from the port in the city of Malaga wants to ride in the next year, tourists with a self-propelled electric buses.

The Cruiser-provider Pullmantur Cruceros offers now city tours via electric Bicycle, the tourists can book. So far, there is supply, but only in the Canary Islands.

But the issue of electric bike is also not entirely free from polemic: “In Palma and there were complaints because some pedestrians think that the E-drive Bikes for the small and always full to the centre quickly,” says Palma-based German lawyer Tim Wirth.

More and more Spaniards discover the Cruising

In spite of their own prejudices against cruise ships, the Spaniards have discovered their love for this form of vacation. You are now the fourth most important market in Europe for cruise operators.

So far, there are only half a million Spaniards to go on Board, compared with more than two million Germans. For the Italian company MSC Cruceros in Spain is a important country: “We have a quarter of the market share and want to continue to grow,” says MSC CEO Gianni Onorato.

Lawyer Wirth wanted to try it even once and has recently taken on a cruise starting in Palma de Mallorca: “I wanted to know how is it and was positively surprised,” he says.

“Of course, it is jammed on a boat anywhere, and especially in the area of the entrance of the ship. I think Mallorca should be innovative, how these tourists in the city money directly.” Then, he adds, there are probably less complaints from the citizens.
