Neymar is doing fine in Brazil

For the past three years, the football star is fighting with the tax authorities in his home country. Now the parties have agreed: The Paris St.-Germain-professional pays only a fraction of the originally requested penalty.

After a year long legal battle, the Brazilian soccer star Neymar a penalty agreed to be paid to the tax authorities in its home country. He’ll pay eight million Reais (€2.1 million) to the Treasury, said his lawyer Marcos Neder on Friday evening. “The process took more than three years. The goal is to draw a line and start a new stage,” said the lawyer.

Neymar was, however, continued to insist that he had nothing wrong. The tax authorities have been calling for for years of back taxes from Neymar. Originally, tax had been calculated penalty in the amount of the equivalent of 50 million euros. After appeal, the Neymar side, the claim was reduced at the beginning of this year. In Spain Neymar and his parents because of fraud and corruption allegations have to answer in court. The accusations relate to his move in 2013 from Santos FC to Barcelona.

For the record sum of EUR 222 million was Neymar changed recently from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain. On Sunday he will give his debut in the French League.
