Already in 1981, the Cathedral was included in the Unesco list of world cultural heritage – as the second building in Germany, according to the Aachen Cathedral. With the registration in the world heritage list, the UN cultural organization, paid tribute to the towers of the Speyer Cathedral, with its four striking as a “major work of Romanesque architecture in Germany”.
Grave of Helmut Kohl will be open to the public
Following the funeral service a “military farewell will take place in front of the Cathedral ceremony with guard of honour”. After that, the on 16. June deceased, Helmut Kohl, at the Church of peace Saint Bernhard to his last resting place. Cabbage is buried at his own request, on the local cemetery of the Cathedral Chapter.
The Church of peace was built in the 1950s jointly by the French and the Germans, and is located near the Old cemetery of Speyer, the present Adenauer Park. As a Symbol of peace and reconciliation niches of St. Bernard earth is stored in the wall of all the continents, among other things, of the French war cemeteries and from the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.
In the cemetery next to the Church deceased members of the Speyer Cathedral Chapter to be buried. The tomb Kohl’s is supposed to be according to information from the diocese from the Adenauer Park accessible to the public. Today, the Park bears the name of the first Federal Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer (CDU), was for almost four centuries-the cemetery of the city. After its closure in the year 1881 the Premises for more than seventy years has not been used, and only in 1958 to a green retreat near the train station. The Park is in Speyer, still also as an old cemetery known.
