World heritage title in sight?

On the rivers Saale and Unstrut in the middle ages, has left abundant traces: castles, monasteries, churches and vineyards, the heart of the Naumburg Cathedral. The Region is applying for the UNESCO title.

The Tuscany of the North

In Central Germany, halfway between Leipzig and Weimar, the castles and wine region of the rivers Saale and Unstrut. Outside of Germany has heard of this landscape, but that may change. From the 2. to 12. July, the UNESCO world heritage Committee will decide at its annual meeting in the Polish city of Krakow, whether the Region gets the coveted UNESCO seal of approval. The request bears the Heading: “The Naumburg Cathedral and the high medieval cultural landscape of the Saale and Unstrut.” Behind it a Wealth of cultural and historic testimonies from the 10. to 13. Century, which is unparalleled.
