Apple labels free apps no longer free

Apple has, under pressure from the European Commission, the downloadknoppen in the App Store custom. On the buttons in the free apps no longer ‘free’, but ‘download’. Many apps have in-app-purchases and are therefore in practice not always free.

The change is Wednesday night reflected in all App Stores, not only in the European but also, for example, in the U.s.; there is the text ‘free’ replaced by ‘get’. Not only free-to-play apps offer a button with the new text, but also other apps which do not need to be paid.

According to the European Commission, it is misleading to apps free to call as the app users are then prompted tempted to spend money, for example, in free-to-play games, but also in magazines and newspapers.

The change seems not yet fully implemented: the App Store has still lists, for example, with the ‘top free’ apps. Know before the European Commission, Google is already there to convince you to games with in-app purchases no longer as ‘free’ label.
