The A8X-soc in the iPad Air 2 has a gpu with eight cores. That has Anandtech derived from a that shot. It’s most likely a gpu manufacturer Imagination has never announced and that Anandtech GXA6850 calls.

The gpu would be twice as many cpu cores as that in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the GX6450. Although Imagination the GXA6850 never announced, pointing Anandtech suggests that Imagination with the announcement of his new series of gpu’s last week said that the top 16 cores, twice as many as the current top model in the Series 6XT.

It is thus for the first time that Apple has an unannounced gpu used in the soc. That suggests that Apple is working closely with the manufacturer Imagination to the implementation of new gpu’s. Anandtech hint out that Apple, the gpu itself would have been designed on the basis of the G6450. The soc is only in the iPad Air 2.

It is unknown how Anandtech to the information. The site is known for its contacts within the departments of companies that are responsible for creating processors. The founder of the site, Anand Lal Shimpi, left earlier this year, the site to which he gave its name to Apple to go to work.
